Thinking About Art: Reading and Discussion Group

Join us for the next edition members-only reading and discussion group Thinking About Art. In this second chapter, we will be considering performance art history and practice, hoping to foster a collaborative exploration of multiple texts and documentary materials. Guiding questions that we hope to answer for ourselves include:
- What is performance art and what makes it different from other art forms?
- What tools and concepts are important to understanding this art form?
- Who are the key figures in this genre?
- How have women and other marginalized groups contributed?
ATHICA will provide reading material and facilitate discussions to be held on Zoom with the support of Fall 2021 interns Addie Vondrak and Sevaan Perrow, current and recently graduated students in media and performance studies at UGA’s Lamar Dodd School of Art. Participants will receive free reading materials shipped directly to their home for review and study. In addition, ATHICA will offer related events, discussion prompts, and links to relevant performances for further exploration of the topic. Related event information coming soon.
Attendees for each session will receive overview works and their choice of several artist-specific works. Registration is capped at 12 per session; the schedule of readings, registration deadlines, and discussion dates follow below.
