Deadline for Entry: July 26, 2018 11:59 PM EST
ATHICA is sponsoring a contest to identify music from Athens-based musicians (individuals and ensembles) for inclusion in a vinyl record to be pressed by ATHICA’s partner and sponsoring record production company Kindercore Vinyl. “The Sounds of Athens” record will be a constituent project of the upcoming ATHICA exhibition “The Golden Record.” In a hypothetical journey far beyond our galaxy, as if on the Voyager spacecraft which bears the Golden Record of the sounds of earth, the “Sounds of Athens” will be a calling card of Athens music that would be shared with the Universe. Winners must be willing to perform the selected work at an event in support of the project.
Submit songs or audio bytes that reflect on the beautiful and daft hopefulness of this compilation going forth for 40,000 years to be sort of near the closest star. Audio files ideally at or under 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Submissions for review must be in MP3 format; selected works will need to be provided in uncompressed format (WAV files are best, or AIFF files with a minimum quality of 44.1KHz 16 bit.) Up to two audio files may be submitted for review. All files must be submitted as links in this online entry form.
Contest judges: Camille Hayes, Jon Vogt, Paula Runyon and Kindercore representative.
Selected artists reserve all rights with the exception that they grant ATHICA and Kindercore the right to produce, distribute, sell, and promote (print, web, radio, event, in community and gallery) the selected work on this limited edition, colored vinyl pressing of 500 copies. Selected artists will receive a limited number of copies at no charge; additional copies may be pre-ordered at the time of notification and acceptance at 50% of the retail rate.
Your entry fee of $10.00 goes to offset the costs of production, which is subsidized in part by the generous sponsorship of Kindercore Records. ATHICA provides a limited number of fee waivers for those in financial need.
To enter, complete this form and submit $10.00 to email@example.com via Paypal. Be sure to include the name and email address used on the submission form in the notes on your PayPal payment (many people have different PayPal names than their real names) so that your payment can be properly registered. Only those entries with paid or waived entry fees will be considered.
