Artists working in any/all media are invited to this free call for entries. Five selected artists will be offered a commission contract, specifications, and stipend of $750 on submission of commissioned work.
Call for entries for “By Any Other Name,” an art action to protest the enshrining of historical enslavers and white supremacists in the names of public buildings. Five artists will be selected for commissions to develop designs/images/artwork/posters in response to the University System of Georgia’s decision to ignore the recommendations of their commissioned advisory panel to rename such buildings, per their official statement of November 22, 2021: “The purpose of history is to instruct. History can teach us important lessons, lessons that if understood and applied make Georgia and its people stronger. The Board, therefore, will not pursue name changes on USG buildings and colleges as recommended by the advisory group’s report.”

Commission: The artist will provide an original artwork in accordance with the specifications provided. The commissioned artwork can be in any media but will need to translate into a 2-D digital image for printing. The artist will assign the rights to ATHICA to reproduce and distribute the commissioned work in an art action and to use the image for publicity in print and web formats. The original artwork will be returned to the artist, who will retain the copyright and use of the image. ATHICA will not sell or otherwise use the image for commercial purposes.
