ATHICA will be the beneficiary and site of a student-organized fundraiser this Wednesday, November 8, 6-8 PM. The students, Xayla Wilson, Kennedy Carter, Kendra Johnson, Bethany Bell, Trenton Thompson, and Iranola, are enrolled in the UGA College of Education’s Department of Counseling and Human Development course ECHD 3130: Program and Event Management. Their semester project is to develop and stage a fundraising event for a local Athens non-profit, and ATHICA is one of the lucky recipients. The Exhibit will feature ATHICA’s 2017 Juried Exhibition, music by Guy Did Ail, Safety Second, Sad Dad Dream Quartet, food, beverage, and a door prize raffle. Prizes include two Georgia Theatre Tickets to a concert of your choice; free passes for skating, bowling, golf, and Artini’s; and gift cards to Menchie’s, Saucehouse, and Low Yo Yo Records.
“Through this course we hope to learn the ins and outs of event planning and how to manage the potential risks that come with bringing a crowd of people together. Although some of us may not go on to become event planners in the future, we have recognized that we use a lot of the same skills that event planners do in everyday life.” Kennedy Carter, team leader
