Things We Love: ATHICA Typewriter Club with Typewriter Tom
Are you a closet typewriter buff? Do you have a vintage typewriter, or are you yearning for a return to analog days? You might be dreaming of a real machine that has moving parts and makes a satisfying “ding” every time you return the carriage? Do you even know what that means?
Join us for the first (and perhaps only) meeting of ATHICA’s Typewriter Club from 1-3 pm on Saturday, February 18th, 2023. Bring your own typewriter(s) to share or just come and check out everyone else’s. We’ll have tables for everyone to bring one or more of their own machines to share, real vintage typewriter paper, and our special guest, an Atlanta Typewriter Club guru, Typewriter Tom (Rehkopf) will be on hand with a few typewriters to play with and conduct a little mini-cleaning/repair workshop. Coffee and snacks will be served, along with conversation and delight.
More About Typewriter Tom:
Tom Rehkopf hails from Roswell, Georgia, where he collects and repairs typewriters, assisting collectors, the Computer Museum of America, and film and television productions. His background in higher mathematics had led him to a career working with IT at AT&T and Bell Labs and now when he’s not busy with his own IT consulting company, he’s dedicated to using his powers for good by maintaining and restoring these beautiful analog machines to their original glory.
