ATHICA Free Music Night Featuring Joe Leone and Tribe of Three

Saturday, March 4, 2023, 7:00 PM

FREE, additional donations to musicians appreciated

Joe Leone with his group “Tribe of Three” with Louis Romanos and Jeremiah Raj will perform instrumental music with some new and old pieces, from World to Jazz to Classical’ish! “Tribe of Three” has created their own unique style of rhythmic-acoustic sounds that are based around a fresh musical vision. Their music draws upon many genres from Middle Eastern scales and Jazz, to hints of Latin, Classical, and Folk. Original compositions take audiences on a musical journey; blending improvisations that are spatial, and beautiful; flowing into movements that are breathtaking in intricacy and speed. Tribe of Three has been mesmerizing their audiences with unique soundscapes, arrangements and captivating melodies. Instrumentation: acoustic guitar, various world hand percussion, and oud.

About Tribe of Three
Joe Leone  studied Latin Classical guitar as a child, and has since developed his own unique blend of musical genres while playing in open tunings on acoustic guitar. Years ago, his love of world music led him to play with musicians from Afghanistan and India; and now merging East-West musical styles with “Tribe of Three.” Song writing for him comes mostly from experimenting with different positions to play similar sounding arpeggios; with different finger pickings, tunings and time signatures.

Louis Romanos studied percussion under Idris Muhammad, Johnny Vidacovich and Art Perretta. At
nineteen he moved to the birthplace of Jazz, New Orleans, to study music and philosophy. Louis has
since performed and recorded with a number of renowned musicians including Tommy James (Director
of the Duke Ellington Orchestra), Gene Bertoncini, Steve Masakowski, Chuck Leavell, Keith Richards,
John Mayer, Charles and Cyril Neville, Al Hirt, Dave Easley of Brian Blade’s Fellowship Band, Charlie
Miller of Dr. John’s band, Jazz Legend Earl Turbinton, Tricia Boutte, Marva Wright and Dave Anderson of
the Louisiana Philharmonic and many, many more.

Jeremiah Raj: Jeremiah’s love for playing improvisational music is an integral part of his musical journey.
While he always enjoyed creating his own music growing up, he began formally studying guitar as a teenager, performing in jazz combos and big bands through college, and earning a minor in jazz guitar from Mercer University. The expressive freedom within that "genre" inspired him to constantly seek new textures and sounds with which to create. Embracing multiple string instruments and musical influences has led Jeremiah to perform with a wide range of musicians and styles.
