Dr Voxoid’s Next Move: Performance by Jaap Blonk

October 30 @ 8:30 pm - 10:30 pm

UGA’s Lamar Dodd School of Art Presents Jaap Blonk
UGA’s Lamar Dodd School of Art is hosting the Dutch artist Jaap Blonk as part of his 40th tour of the United States, with two events taking place on campus and at ATHICA.  Both events are free and open to the public.
On the morning of Wednesday, October 30, a lecture/performance will be presented at 11:45 am in Dancz Hall at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, in which Blonk will talk about his work, placing it in the context of its roots: sound poetry, improvisation and new music. He presents both historic sound poetry and his own work, in the form of: snippets of live performance, projection of texts and scores, sound examples, including his work with other musicians and / or with electronics, and video fragments. At several points question-and-answer sessions can be inserted.
Dr Voxoid’s Next Move:
Evening Performance by Jaap Blonk @ ATHICA
With special guest improvisers
Wednesday, October 30, 2024, 8:30pm
Dr Voxoid’s Next Move is Jaap Blonk’s current voice and electronics performance. It is in constant development; new possibilities being added frequently. He prefers to choose a specific program on the spot and may even change it during a performance. It may contain:
– sound poetry (his own works and possibly an occasional ‘classic’ from this tradition)
– pieces in invented languages, for instance in “Onderlands” (the language of the Underlands, a variation on Netherlands)
– phonetic etudes and processes
– live soundscapes
– improvisations, both for solo voice and in dialogue with his live electronics
– and more…
