Athens Institute for Contemporary Art
The Georgia Fine Arts Academy presents its seventeenth Café Apollinaire, named for the poet Guillaume Apollinaire, a champion of the arts and leader of the avant-garde who coined the phrase “Surrealism” which celebrates its centennial this year.
This annual “art-splosion” is hosted by Bowen Craig in memory of William “Bill” Bray who founded the Georgia Fine Arts Academy nonprofit in 1980. Bill’s life mission was to mentor and encourage amateur or young artists, just as Apollinaire did in Paris before and during World War I. It continues.
DATE & TIME: Saturday, April 6, 2024 – 7 pm, Doors Open at 6:30 pm
VENUE: ATHICA 675 Pulaski St., Ste. 1200 (in the Leathers Bldg., Athens)
~ Gratuitement! It’s FREE and open to all who are 18 and over.

ATHICA will be transformed into the outdoor cafés on the streets of Paris where artists gathered to share ideas and show and discuss their work. Mamie Fike Mills will set the mood as she strolls inside and out with her inimitable violin stylings.
We’ll enjoy a reading of a short new play by Eva Creel and a short new film by Isabel Bobrik and Daniel Gauldron. Popular singer/songwriter Billy Dunn performs, and Bob Fetzer shares the stunning visual art he’s parlayed into an inspirational book. As a special treat, we’ll have Athens’ former Poet Laureate Jeffrey Fallis read hometown-centric prose. Sean Polite will read from Mark Katzman’s new novel M7 and, per tradition, we’ll have the latest comedy sketch by Bowen Craig featuring local actors Lora Hogan, Georgui Kasaev, KAT Marie Mitchell, John Olive…and more!
Thanks to sponsors Athentic Brewing Company, The Lark Winespace, WaterMan Spring Water and ATHICA.
