We are pleased to host the third VOX Reading Series event at
ATHICA (rescheduled becaus of last week's winter weather); these eight writers' original
works will compliment ATHICA's current childhood and family-themed
exhibit, Nurture: Video and Photography by Amy Jenkins.
The VOX evenings of original prose and poetry readings have
been enjoyed immensely at the two similar previous events
ATHICA has hosted-Headlines: News-themed Stories and Poems
during this fall's Free Press in Free Fall exhibit and Love
Lines during last spring's Crafting Romance. Once again VOX
organizers Matt Forsythe, Andy Frazee & Ida Stewart have
curated a bevy of works; no piece will run longer than ten
minutes, and many run shorter. (You can see images from these
past events here and here!)

Melisa Cahnmann-Taylor, an Associate Professor in the College
of Education, is a poet with over a decade's worth of
publications in poetry and academic journals and with two books
on arts education under her belt. Local writer Johnny Pence is
the former long-time editor of The Blotter literary magazine.
Both bring their experiences as parents of young children to
the page.
The remaining 6 writers are currently enrolled as
MFA and PhD students in UGA's Creative Writing Program, with
many distinguished awards and publications among them. Jeff Fallis and Kyle Garrett appeared in fall's line-up and
Patrick Denker read last spring.
VOX is affiliated with the University of Georgia's Creative
Writing Dept. The VOX Reading Series serves to bring both
emerging and established writers to Athens, as well as to
provide a stage for graduate students in the UGA Creative
Writing Program. Founded in 2004 as an independently
student-run series, VOX held events in venues throughout Athens
until 2007, when, with the financial support of the Creative
Writing Program, it moved to its current home venue, the Cine
art theater. For more information, friend VOX on Facebook, or email
