Five local and nine out-of-town artists collectively examine lesbian identity issues, such as social, sexual, and personal experience, a demonstration that visual art can aid in the acceptance of diversity, essential in an era of rapid change. The art is quite varied, demonstrating that lesbian art offers no singular perspective. The common thread is the artists' efforts to come to terms with lesbianism, whether the artist is motivated by autobiographical concerns or is dealing with the identity of a family member, friend, lover or lesbianism as a social construct. The kind of "otherness" that characterizes homosexuality is something that the human mind hopes to reconcile, no matter how liberated the mind or how commonplace the encounter. Participating Artists
Edwina Arey (Athens, GA), Shelly Ford (Athens, GA), Steph Furness (Trenton, NJ), Tracie Hollis (Decatur, GA), Susan Jarvis (Newfane, VT), Kathryn Jill Johnson (Athens, GA), Celeste Laborde (Birmingham, AL), Emily Lombardo (Dorchester, MA), Erika Swinson (Athens, GA), Grant Tatum (Birmingham, AL), Liena Vayzman (Providence, RI), Roxie Veasey (Athens, GA), Allison Wiltshire (Savannah, GA), Elizabeth Whitney (Milwaukee, WI)
